The Nikos Steiropoulos Postgraduate Scholarship was established by MSD Animal Health UK, in memory of Mr Nikos Steiropoulos, Associate Director and Head of Aquaculture for MSD Animal Health UK.
The scholarship will offer a full fee waiver to a strong candidate who demonstrates their aims and ambitions within the field of Aquaculture and why they want to study at the Institute of Aquaculture at the University of Stirling.
The award will offer an excellent opportunity to develop your skills and career within Aquaculture, and as part of the award, students will present a report of their activity and findings to the funders of the award (MSD Animal Health UK). There will be further opportunities to interact with MSD Animal Health to obtain insights into their R/D and commercial activities, as well as for networking and building connections that can enhance their career in the future.
Shortlisted candidates will be required to participate in a short informal interview with the scholarship panel within the faculty. Interviews will be conducted on Monday 7 August 2025.
Eligibility and availability
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- a minimum of 2:2 honours degree and an offer of a place for MSc Sustainable Aquaculture, MSc Aquatic Pathobiology or MSc Aquatic Veterinary Studies;
- you must be based on the Stirling campus for the course of study- distance learning is not permitted for this award;
- this scholarship cannot be combined with any other University of Stirling scholarship or award;
- be available to start academic studies in the UK by the start of the UK academic year in September 2025.
Important information
- There is no monetary alternative to this award, it will be issued as a tuition fee waiver. No cheque or payment shall be made directly to the student.
- In the event of the Scholarship awardee choosing to withdraw from the course, or to defer entry, the panel reserve the right to request the repayment of fees, or to withdraw their offer of support.
- The successful scholar will be asked to sign an agreement which will outline the conditions of offer relating to this scholarship.
- If the scholar ceases to be a registered student at the University of Stirling or does not fulfil the terms of their signed agreement, the Scholarship would be suspended immediately and they may be required to return any overpayments.
- Applicants will be notified of the outcome after 7 August 2025.

- a statement, up to 500 words, on what they hope to achieve with a Masters degree from the Institute of Aquaculture.
The application deadline is 31 July 2025, 17:00 UK time.
Following the deadline, shortlisted candidates will participate in a short interview with the scholarship panel. Interviews will be scheduled for 7 August 2025.
