Supporting staff to support care experienced students

The University’s Corporate Parenting Plan aims to ensure our students with care experience feel supported and have access to all that the University has to offer, in a way that works for them. There are several things which you as a member of staff can do to help us achieve this aim.

All staff are encouraged to undertake a free e-learning module entitled Care Experience and Corporate Parenting. The module has been developed by Who Cares? Scotland and is available on Canvas to staff and students with University accounts.

The module provides a baseline level of knowledge and understanding of care experience, what the journey into care can be like as well as the impact that being Care Experienced can have on different aspects of an individual’s life. The module also provides an introduction to Corporate Parenting, the statutory duties as well as the Promise.

Everyone in our institution has a role to play in improving outcomes for care experienced students.

If you or one of your students has a query or is looking for advice and/or support the university has a Single Point of Contact within Student Support Services and can be contacted by emailing sssSPOC@stir.ac.uk.
