Donald Matheson

Studying our BA (Hons) Journalism Studies helped Donald Matheson achieve his career ambition and become a Television Producer.

My dad was a journalist, I knew I wanted to tell stories after listening to him and my mum tell me about some of the stories they worked on.

Believe in your ideas

I am a producer at Create Anything. My job allows me to come up with ideas and develop them to end up on your TV screen, mobile or laptop. My day can involve working with broadcasters such as BBC and international streamers including Netflix, Amazon and HBO. I really enjoy the fact that boundaries are kind of endless. It's about believing in ideas wherever you get your inspiration from.

Stirling gave me the best of both worlds

Stirling allowed me to gain work experience, working on set and with mentors - developing both theoretical and practical skills which helped my career.

If I was to give advice to my younger self, it's don't be afraid to fail.
