Lucy Fraser Edmans graduated with an MSc Big Data. Studying at Stirling helped her change her career trajectory and become a Data Science Lead for Forth Point A Blend360 Company.
Becoming a data scientist
After I left university, I worked a few jobs and I was very frustrated at how they weren't getting the most from their data and I wanted to do more. I wanted to do coding and get more insights out of it. So I ended up studying at Stirling and now I'm a lead data scientist at Forth Point A Blend360 Company.
I enjoy the variety of the role
Predominantly I'm responsible for the technical solutions that we work on with our clients. I also work on new business proposals and pitches. We work with our clients to help them solve business challenges and to drive value. A lot of it is using communications skills as well to help clients understand those technical solutions that we deliver.
I love that my role varies day to day. One day you'd be working at the Quayside in Aberdeen and another day in a factory in Hungary.
My time at Stirling
My fondest memory at the university was being there in the first week and that buzz of being in a room and learning about data science. It was just really exciting. Different parts of course helped with where I am now in my career.
If I were to give my younger self some advice, it would be to just do it. Studying the MSc Big Data gave me opportunities to apply for jobs that have definitely changed my career trajectory.
