Sophia is currently a full-time student at the University of Stirling studying the BSc Cell and Molecular Bioscience. Once she's graduates she wants to continue with postgraduate studies focusing on research in biotechnology.
A specialised biology course with supportive and helpful lecturers
What first caught my eye with the course is its specialisation in my most loved area of science, cellular and molecular biology. My course provides me with great knowledge on the structural foundations of biology, along with a focus on practical work. I am very excited about the path I'm following as it offers great career prospects in the medicine, research, and biotechnology industries.
The learning materials given are accessible and easy to navigate. They are all online and live lectures are recorded. My lecturers are approachable and supportive. During and after my lectures I often ask them questions and advice for clarity on projects or on the course material. They are responsive and helpful.
Stirling has a strong sense of community with lots to do
As an international student in Stirling I've been able to learn how to be self-sufficient in all aspects of my life - my studies, social life and personal life. I've developed core study habits due the easily accessible learning materials and conducive learning environments that are available all throughout the campus.
As a student far from home, having a strong sense of community with endless campus activities for students is a real benefit for me. I've developed certain skills like time management, budgeting, and proactiveness. Stirling understands the balance of work and fun, making it a home from home for international students.
Be open to meeting new people, new environments, and new ideas
I say this because Stirling is full of little niche places that absolutely bring light to beauty, art, and self-expression. I personally love walking around Airthrey Loch on campus because of the animals and peaceful atmosphere. Be receptive to change, it can shape you in the most serendipitous way.
Most importantly, have fun studying what you love! Choose a course that matches your passions.
