Student Charter
This Charter has been jointly developed by the Students' Union and the University of Stirling to set out the expectations and responsibilities that guide our shared academic community. It is built on mutual respect, inclusivity and a commitment to supporting all students to achieve their full potential.
Our shared commitments
Together, we commit to:
- respecting each other’s dignity, rights and opinions;
- fostering an inclusive and accessible learning environment;
- promoting academic integrity and personal responsibility;
- working together to continuously improve the student experience;
- being considerate of the University's campus and digital spaces.
Student learning experience
As a student, I will: take responsibility for my academic progress by attending my classes and groups, engaging in my learning, and submitting my work on time.
As the University, we will: deliver an engaging curriculum that supports you in developing the skills and knowledge you need to succeed in your chosen career. Give you timely, constructive feedback that helps you improve your work and supports your academic progress.
As your Students' Union, we will: work in partnership with the University to shape and inform policy.
Support
As a student, I will: ask for help and support when I need it.
As the University, we will: provide Student Support Services and assign you a personal tutor, making sure you have the guidance and help you need to thrive during your time at Stirling.
As your Students' Union, we will: provide you with impartial advice and support on academic matters and University procedures, along with guidance on accommodation and welfare issues.
Health and wellbeing
As a student, I will: look after my health and wellbeing.
As the University, we will: deliver services, opportunities and activities that will help you improve your health and wellbeing, make friends, and feel connected to the Stirling community.
As your Students' Union, we will: support sports clubs and student societies to help you build friendships, look after your wellbeing and feel a strong sense of belonging.
Student voice
As a student, I will: share my views when asked to help improve the student experience.
As the University, we will: regularly offer ways for you to share your views to improve the student experience and influence positive outcomes for all students. Ensure Staff/Student Voice Committees operate effectively.
As your Students' Union, we will: hold democratic elections for student leadership positions. Oversee the appointment and training of Academic Representatives and advocate for improvements to support the student experience.
Conduct
As a student, I will: conduct myself in a way that is respectful, courteous and considerate to all members of the University community and the campus.
As the University, we will: engage with you with courtesy and professionalism and fairness.
As your Students' Union, we will: represent students’ interests and promote a culture of mutual respect and fairness.
