Centre for Environment, Heritage and Policy

Welcome to the University’s Centre for Environment, Heritage and Policy (CEHP). We promote and support world-leading interdisciplinary research on environment, heritage and policy across the University of Stirling and beyond.

Members of the Centre aim to make a difference by developing sustainable approaches to the challenges and opportunities surrounding environment and heritage in a world of accelerating change and increasing pressure on natural and cultural resources.

Our research themes

Research in the Centre for Environment, Heritage and Policy falls into six overarching research themes. Take a closer look at our work.

Heritage

We make a difference to society by offering new perspectives on relationships between past, present and future.

Energy

We understand energy in an interdisciplinary and holistic way.

Climate and Environment

Our projects look at the social and security challenges emanating from climate and environmental problems.

Environmental History

We look beyond political narratives to explore the dynamic between humans and the environment in which we live, where nature matters in ways that cannot be separated from the human experience.

Water, Food and Agriculture

We research various aspects of the relationship between energy, water, climate, food production, culture, and the local environment.

Environmental Justice and Low Carbon Transitions

This cluster addresses the triple environmental crisis of climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution, but also the socio-ecological contradictions in their political responses, especially decarbonization policies.
