Project to restore and expand Scotland’s ancient forests is boosting moth biodiversity
At the University of Stirling, our researchers are truly making a difference. We’re working to improve the lives of people with dementia, feeding communities through sustainable aquaculture research and finding creative ways to inspire better health and wellbeing. Our challenge-led research is conducted to the highest standards of quality and integrity, allowing us to support and improve life across the world.
We work towards the UN's Sustainable Development Goals to create a better and fairer world. Find out about our impact.

Our research includes an interdisciplinary approach to address global challenges through three interconnected missions that seek to make meaningful improvements to the quality of Spaces, Places and Lives.
From climate resilience and biodiversity protection to digital transformation and cultural continuity, we work across disciplines to develop solutions that safeguard both heritage and future.
Through this mission, our researchers work alongside partners to strengthen cohesion, preserve culture and build resilience in the face of change.
Our Lives research recognises the role of active lifestyles and sport, alongside healthcare, culture and education, in fostering healthier and more connected lives.

For more than 30 years, our scientists have been improving water quality globally through Earth observation in an ever-changing world.
Find out how our research has been critical to implementing major new policies to repair tens of thousands of water bodies across Europe.
We find innovative solutions to the challenges of ageing and dementia that are enabling older people to live independent lives, for longer.
Our experts dissect some of the popular subcategories of the functional water market, separating myth from reality to empower consumers with evidence-based insights into optimal hydration practices.
Our research seeks to explore new ways in which free mental health awareness and intervention can create positive outcomes and new care pathways for patients struggling with depression or at risk of suicide.
Our expertise has attracted major investment that positions the University at the heart of regional growth and research innovation. Plans are in place for a new £17 million Aquaculture Hub and £5 million International Environment Centre at the University as part of the Stirling and Clackmannanshire City Region Deal. We are also leading the Forth Environmental Resilience Array – a multi-million-pound project that will use sensors, satellite data and artificial intelligence to provide vital information on water quality and other critical factors that will drive sustainable economic recovery on a local, regional and ultimately global scale.
In order to promote a healthy research culture across the University, we are engaged in a wide range of activities designed to ensure everyone's voice is heard and everyone's efforts are recognised. We believe that a supportive culture of collaboration and teamwork will allow all of our staff to achieve their potential, and we encourage staff at all levels to act as good role models and demonstrate fair, collaborative and supportive behaviour.
