Strengthening the Trust in Qualitative Evidence Synthesis Through Better Reporting

Funded by Fondation Brocher.

Collaboration with Bangor University, City University London, University College London, University of Exeter, University of Galway, University of Sheffield and University of York.

The focus of this workshop will be to share a draft of a new reporting guideline for qualitative evidence syntheses (QES) - PRISMA QES - and to explore how it can improve reporting of QES in order to encourage use of qualitative evidence to support decision-making and policymaking in health and social care systems. There will be a particular focus on the needs of end users and researchers in different high, medium and low income contexts. The guideline itself is funded by the Medical Research Council who has refused to provide funding for any face-to-face meetings. This in-person workshop will bring together scholars, evidence users and other producers of QES, including those from low-to-middle income countries, who have developed reporting guidelines, produced or used evidence from qualitative research in guideline processes for clinical, health systems and for other health and social care issues. Workshop participants will contribute to two key outputs: the first is a detailed explanatory document to accompany the PRISMA QES reporting guideline, the second is to explore and start to develop an additional guideline for reporting QES ‘protocols’ (the detailed plans for how the QES will be conducted).
