About me

After completing my undergraduate degree in Biomedical engineering, I took a position as one of the founding engineers at an aquaculture technology start-up whose mission was to design and build robots for the efficient and safe vaccination of fish. This involved extensive mechanical and electronic design and I found the work to be incredibly interesting and rewarding. Once the final iteration of the fish vaccination machine had reached completion, I made the decision to transition into the artificial intelligence and data space by pursuing a research PhD exploring the use of machine learning approaches for the improvement of management practices in aquaculture. My current focus is on water quality management. To that end, and in keeping with my engineering roots, I have built a custom multi-parameter sensor device and aim to use the collected data as proxies for harder to measure variables using predictive modelling approaches. I will also be exploring some of my other interests throughout this research project including explainable AI, machine learning based hybridization of mechanistic and empirical models, and reinforcement learning.
