I am a doctoral student in Literature and Languages funded by the Carnegie Trust, and supervised by Prof. Katie Halsey and Dr. Michael Shaw. My project is provisionally titled 'Jane Austen on Stage: 1782-2025,' and explores queer elements of performance and adaptation.
I was the 2024 Jane Austen Scholar-in-Residence at Goucher College, Maryland, and a 2024 Chawton House Fellow. I am also the Editor-in-Chief of Romance, Revolution & Reform Journal, a postgraduate journal based at the University of Southampton and the Southampton Centre for Nineteenth-Century Research.
In 2025, I was Glasgow Zine Library's SGSAH Fundraising Intern, and a runner-up for the 2024 Keats-Shelley Essay Prize. I also hold a BA and MRes from the University of Stirling.
Award
2024 Jane Austen Scholar-in-Residence I was awarded a $2500 research grant from the American Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies to conduct archival research in the Alberta Hirsheimer Burke collection at Goucher College, Maryland. This collection holds theatre ephemera, letters, and printed materials related to Jane Austen, and I worked under the supervision of Prof. Juliette Wells. This research was undertaken to create the first ever comprehensive survey of Austen on stage in Britain and America, and I presented my findings at the Society for the History of Authorship, Reading, & Publishing's 2024 Conference.
2024 Keats-Shelley Essay Prize I was awarded £500 for highly commended essay 'Queerness, Gender & Heterosexuality in The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Frankenstein’ by chair of judges Tom Holland. A kind travel grant from the Keats-Shelley Memorial Association allowed me to travel to London for the prize giving ceremony in the historic John Murray Publishing House.
British Association for Victorian Studies Event Funding I was awarded £650 in BAVS Event Funding for RRR Journal's annual conference, held at the University of Stirling in January 2026.
Each year RRR's Deputy Editor must organise the conference on the theme of the next journal issue, which in my case was 'Sex in the Long Nineteenth Century.' This funding allowed me to award 4 PGR Travel Grants to academics facing financial barriers, and to provide an award to the winner of our annual Best Postgraduate Paper Prize, in line with the journal's mission to widen opportunities for postgraduates.
Chawton House Visiting Fellowship https://chawtonhouse.org/…nfluence-legacy/ I was awarded this fellowship to study the original manuscript of Austen’s play Sir Charles Grandison in August 2024. As part of this fellowship, I contributed to the outputs of the house for their celebrations of Austen's 250th birthday. I contributed to the exhibition 'Sisters of the Pen: Jane Austen, Influence, Legacy,' with the section 'Drama in the Drawing Room' highlighting the role of theatre in Austen’s world, tracing how drama moved stage to page, as well as from public theatres to private parlours.
Dee-Amy Chinn Prize for Gender & Feminist Studies This prize recognises exceptional achievement in the study of gender, queer studies and feminism. My MRes dissertation, ‘Queer Adaptation: The Lives of Nineteenth-Century Female Writers Reimagined,' analysed the works of Louisa May Alcott, Emily Dickinson, Mary Shelley, and Jane Austen.
Postgraduate Merit Scholarship University of Stirling I received a £2,000 scholarship for my First Class Honours degree with the University of Stirling. The money went toward full-time study on my MRes degree.
Divisional / Faculty Contribution
Faculty of Arts and Humanities PGR Conference I coordinated this successful conference with fellow postgraduate students on the theme of 'Change and Disruption,' featuring papers from our keynote speakers Dr Anindya Raychaudhuri and Professor Tom Mole.
