Abstract
This article traces a personal trajectory of neomedieval research to illuminate how an academic in this field could contribute to its theorization by locating close and thereby affective affinities to the sociopolitical, economic, and creative conditions of production of the material they study. It presents three case studies of neomedievalism that gradually move further away from the Iberian Peninsula, which also mark the career of the author. Beginning with texts by Jewish and Morisco authors in the late medieval and early modern period, it then moves on to the neomedievalization of Sephardic cultural production in Morocco and ends in the postcolonial present to explore the possible meanings of a medieval temporality conceived of by Latin American re-enactors.
