Abstract
Through dialogic responses by ten historians of the queer and trans* German-speaking world, this Forum takes stock of a vibrant and growing field. The editors and contributors consider the contours and strengths of recent scholarship, their own debts to decades of research often conducted beyond universities, and how queer and trans* histories complicate and enrich broader narratives of twentieth-century German history. At the same time, informed by an uncertain and dangerous contemporary political moment, the Forum evaluates how the field can continue to develop, correcting its omissions (whether conscious or unconscious) along the way.
