About me

Preferred name: Simone Tomaz

Simone completed her PhD in Exercise Science at the University of Cape Town and currently works as a Lecturer in Exercise Physiology at the University of Stirling. Her teaching focus is human anatomy and physiology, with some focus on injuries and injury management. Simone’s research area is physical activity across the age spectrum. She is currently working on a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) project with Walking Scotland (previously Paths for All), which is aiming to co-produce a programme to help get Scottish secondary school pupils more active. Simone has previously worked on the GOALD (Generating Older Active Lives Digitally) project; a collaborative project between the Universities of Stirling and Plymouth exploring the delivery of physical activity and sports-based reminiscence using digital technology in intergenerational groups.

Community Contribution

STEM Ambassador Activity: Reducing Sports Injuries
In January 2026: delivered a 1hr session to a group of n=40 pupils at Kings Park Secondary School in Glasgow. The topic was Reducing Sports Injuries and I used some of my teaching material from SPSU8D4 and clinical experience to deliver an active workshop to the pupils. This was through the STEM Ambassador programme that "is powered by STEM Learning and funded by UK Research and Innovation".
